I’ve taken a little over a month off from blogging like I used to. I had surgery on my vocal cord on April 1st and I’ve hit some highs and some definite lows while trying to adjust to my new voice along with my limitations. Life isn’t always easy and we all need to take a step back sometimes to focus on ourselves.
I used to think I needed to be around someone most of the time, but now that my husband retired and I am still working full-time, boy do I cherish alone time. I must admit, I get a tad cranky and jealous noticing how relaxed he is not working and enjoying fiddle farting around the house.
Taking time alone is essential for your mental health and when you are never alone….you never have time to reflect. You go to bed and then your mind starts to race about everything because you didn’t have time to reflect during the day, hence….lack of quality sleep.
Schedule time alone to read, write, or just kick back and relax. Journaling is helpful to let feelings flow during your alone time. If you are not someone who keeps a journal, just write down all your thoughts, dreams, or desires that are flowing through your head and then shred or burn it when you are done. Trust me…you will feel more relaxed afterwards.
This is not being selfish, this is allowing you to be the best you can be. Taking time for yourself is rewarding even if it is only for 30 minutes. I’m not talking about being alone in a house full of family members, I’m talking about being alone without wondering where or what everyone else is up to. You are worth it.
Time is precious….alone and with others.
