Same Ol’ Routine

Routines can be good. Sometimes we become proud of our routines, and sometimes our routines can put us in ruts. Routines can, or shall I say….Routines do become boring for a lot of individuals. I am one of those individuals. I like life to be spontaneous and exciting. We almost become robotic with our routines. Our life becomes a fixed program that we robotically do on a daily basis.

Some routines, which I believe are very important are, are routines such as taking your medication, getting to work on time, going to bed and getting up roughly the same time each day, eating healthy meals and getting in a form of exercise daily.

How much would you love to go to bed with a smile on your face because you didn’t do the same thing as you usually do? I mean really….most of us get up, drink our coffee, protein drink or whatever it is you drink first thing in the morning, get ready for work, work, come home, have dinner, watch television and go to bed….or something like that. My point is…most of us have trained ourselves to do the same thing everyday. Wouldn’t it be nice to go to bed having a memory on your mind about something fun you did differently that day?

Since we are so conditioned in keeping to our safe routines, planning a different routine can be fun, unless you are not a planner. If you are not a planner, I suggest you put fun ideas into a jar and pick one daily or numerous times throughout the day and shake your day up.

Some suggestions could be……

Take a walk during lunchtime, have breakfast for dinner, drive somewhere a different way than you usually go, call or text a friend or family member you have not talked to for awhile, start a hobby, play games, cook something you’ve never cooked before, read a book, go for a drive and take pictures, start a journal, sudoku, crossword puzzle, turn your favorite song up and sing while dancing like you have never sang or danced before or work on a puzzle. Mix up your work routine.

Work Routine: If you are in a management management, change things up, be fun, walk around with a smile (yes I went there…lol) I use to be so scared of most of my managers. I felt as though I shouldn’t talk to them, I wasn’t smart enough to talk to them, they wouldn’t listen or most were simply unapproachable. I began to realized a great manager is a manager who wants the best for their employees.

I’m in management now and although I want respect, I know if I am myself, approachable, listen to employees, and work as a team, and keep work enjoyable without routine….My team will enjoy coming to work. I want my team to know I am there to make work pleasurable, without the same ol’ routine day in and day out.

No matter what position you are in at your place of employment, get to know your co-workers and create an environment co-workers want to work in. Even if you are not in management, let your co-workers know you enjoy working with them, get to know your co-workers…..Remember….Positive energy brings Positive energy.

Relationships: Why is it when we start a new relationship it’s full of excitement and we look forward to each day spending time together. Then, for most of us, our relationship becomes routine and the excitement diminishes. We become so comfortable with one another, we forget about how exciting life once was.

People need to be told they are loved daily. We need to be told we are worthy, pretty, handsome, asked out on a date, have notes left for us saying thank you or that we are on their mind.

Treat each day as if it were your last. We never do know when our last day is and wouldn’t it be nice to enjoy each day as if it was the most exciting day ever?

Try not to…wake up, eat breakfast, brush your teeth, get dressed, possibly go to work or sit and watch television, have lunch, watch television or be on your phone, have dinner, watch television and then go to bed.

Do something fun for yourself and something fun for someone else each day of your life. You won’t regret it and you’ll go to bed with a smile on your face. Exercise, get out and go for a walk, volunteer and make a difference.

Please don’t let your life become a robotic routine like I have done numerous times in my life. I always know when I become routine because I then get in a funk. Great thing is….I realize when I get in a funk and I switch it up. Life is Good.
