Our Map Is A Journey

Many of us want everything to go exactly the way we would like it to go. Wouldn’t it be nice if we always had our own way and never had to figure out alternative ways or learn from the word “No”. I had to laugh because we learned the word “no” at a very early age. Everyone probably cringes just a tad when they are told no. Sometimes that word, no, takes us numerous times to hear before the light bulb turns on and we have to surrender the control we want, and learn from not being able to do what we want.

Our life is like a map with so many different roads one can take to get to the same place you want to arrive. Some of the routes take a lot longer with numerous different roads to turn on, and some can be a straight shot to our destination. Many of us want to get where we are going quickly and many like the scenic route and enjoy exploring different ways to get to the same destination.

Life is like a roadmap and our thoughts are the destinations. Sometimes when we think about doing something and when we go to do it, the direction we thought we wanted to take ends up with a roadblock. We have to take a different route to get to where we want to go when we run into these roadblocks. Life is like that. It’s like you can’t become a CEO of a company without learning the ropes about the job. You can’t start your own business until you learn what you need to succeed. Here is where that darn word “no” comes back into play and sometimes you just have to put yourself into reverse and learn more routes to get where you want to go.

When we say “I can’t do that” to something we just tried to do, that means we are not willing to try again and find another way to get to the end result we are striving for. I speak from experience when I say….My map only had one direction to get somewhere and when I came to a roadblock, I would not seek a different route. My journey would end and I was disappointed most of the time, because I didn’t want to try a different way. I just quit my journey and moved on with my life. This is not a great way to be. Our life needs to be full of journeys that lead to many roads along the way. Our map of life is full of much needed lessons.

So, this is my suggestion. If you want to accomplish something and you plan it out only for one way to accomplish it, you are setting yourself up for failure. You need to have back up roads to use to get where you want to go if you hit a roadblock. I have an answer for those who say, “what if there is only one road to get to where I want to go?” Well….Sometimes a landslide or mudslide (same thing) happens and there is no way to get where you so badly wanted to go. This is when it is time to think of different directions or places to seek out. This means, some things in life just won’t happen no matter how hard we try. True fact my friends. The difference is….If you quit trying after the first detour or roadblock without trying different directions to get to the place you wanted, you didn’t try hard enough.

You know the saying, if you first don’t succeed….try try again. I have my own magic number, which is five. Most of the time I will succeed before the fifth time, but there are times when I have not. To me….it just wasn’t meant to be, so I then need to rethink what can I do to alter what I wanted to do to succeed? I find a different destination that involves what I want with alternate directions. Like buying a house. I had a picture in mind of what I wanted, with the way house prices are these days, I had to change my final destination and buy something that I will need to alter to make it somewhat like the home I had in my mind. I didn’t settle, I just need to work a little harder to get the final destination I want. Life is challenging and our world has billions of roads to take. We just need to work harder sometimes to get to the destination we want.
