Today I did a juice fasting because I needed to reprogram my eating habit after being on vacation for nine days in Hawaii. Let me tell you, I ate everything from the time I woke up till the time I went to bed. I am not someone who fasts. I heard so much about how it has helped some people get back with healthy eating after they went crazy on vacation or just needed that special cleanse. I had to reprogram my mind from “I can’t fast” to “I got this, so many people go without food for longer than I need to for this cleanse.” I reprogrammed my thought process.
What I did was think about my reasons for wanting to succeed. The reasons I found made me smile. What happens when we want something but when don’t succeed because we don’t believe in ourselves…. We become sad and disappointed. Merriam-Webster states reprogramming is, “to rewrite or revise a program.” Friends….our brain is our program. We can rewrite and revise our thoughts and beliefs.
Reprogramming our thoughts and beliefs can free us from pain, disbelieves about ourselves, insecurities, and the list goes on and on. Reprogramming our brain is not an overnight process. It takes time to build a new program that works for us. Sometimes we need to rewrite the program and try it out to see if it’s the right program for us, if not, we try another program until we find what works.
So, back to my fasting. Fasting is not for everyone. I tried so many times and I continued to tell myself that I was hungry and I just couldn’t do it. I would quit. I didn’t even try to talk myself into trying a little longer. I realized I needed to reprogram my thought process in order to make it, which I did.
We will be reprogramming our brain our entire life. Trust me….reprogramming our brain is fun….yes I said fun. I believe it’s fun because deep down inside I know that sooner or later all the bad programming I experienced, will soon become the perfect program for me. When I first started counseling and had to do group counseling, I was so dang nervous. Now, I have learned to work with a group and I love it. I get excited to coach/counsel groups of people because I found my niche to make it work for me and the clients. I reprogrammed how I worked with groups.
My lesson here is to remind yourself that you have the power to reprogram your brain to think differently and react differently. You have the power to change your thought process to benefit you. You can change your life to be what you dream it to be. Time….it all takes time and dedication, but you have it within yourself to do it. I believe in you all.
