Stepping Out of Your Comfort Zone

I admire people who step out of their comfort zone. Routine is good for some and being adventurous is good for others. I have always been one of those adventurous individuals who loves to take chances and learn from them. I am not saying routine is bad, but if you are a routine person, take a chance and do something out of the norm for yourself, trust me when I say you will gain strength, courage, and empowerment.

How many of you have seen the movie, “The Bucket List” with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson. Both meet in a hospital and Jack decided to fulfill a bucket list he found that Morgan Freeman threw away as they both were passing with cancer. This is a great movie if you have not seen it. I have a bucket list. I have things on it that scare me and some I just want to do to make me happy. Back in the days I use to ask my doctor for two Zanax to be able to fly because I was so scared. Now I can fly without taking them because I have faced my fears. I skydived because I was scared of height. I scratched that one off my list with pride.

Stepping out of our comfort zone gives one such a feeling of accomplishment and pride. When we do something outside our comfort zone….talk about what you did with excitement to everyone. Write about it in your gratitude journal, express the feelings you felt…..happy, scared, and the conquer.

Is stepping out of your comfort zone stressful???? HECK YES it is….but is should be a healthy stress. We become comfortable in our daily routines, but when we have control of that stress, we gain strength. A good stress = amazing accomplishments = satisfaction.

Another example of stepping out of our comfort zone would is chasing our dreams knowing we will succeed by catching those dreams. We may not always succeed with our dreams, but how will we know if we stay in our comfort zone? When we start a new job or our own company….we are stepping out of our comfort zone, but once we learn how to manage our new position….we are in a new comfort zone. What is great about trying something out of our “norm,” is, we learn to handle this new situation, we expand our mind, and then with repetition….what we once thought was out of our comfort zone is now a new normal to us, and we just added to our “comfort zone.”

I will revisit talking about the importance of stepping out of our comfort zone as I firmly believe we grow in leaps and bounds when we learn new things. Heck, when I started this blog I was beyond scared…but now…I totally love writing and helping others think outside of their normal thoughts and learning to expand their horizon with new thought processes and adventures.

I would love to hear what you did by stepping out of your comfort zone and how you felt after you did. If you have not stepped out of your comfort zone… challenge yourself and start small. I am all about baby steps. What would you like to do but never felt you could do it?

My dream was to help others become their best self. It has taken me a decade of schooling, lots of jobs in the health field to find what I love and what I don’t love, and now I am starting my own business, a huge dream of mine. I am definitely stepping out of my comfort zone and I am loving it. Have faith in yourself….You’ve got this.
