It’s All About Smiling

I write a lot about being positive, which is really hard to do these days with the way our world is acting. I had a very stressful day at work, not to mention the week prior was a very sad week, and I just signed papers today to buy a home on seven acres, which will close next month…..did I mention stress (insert smile here).

I was driving back home from signing a ton of papers and thinking of my day at work. Although I should have been beyond excited about my future home, I was feeling very scared and stressed. As I was thinking about all the stressful moments of my day, I reminded myself to take a deep breath and smile. When I smiled and took that big deep breath, I felt such a satisfying sense of calmness. I have to remind myself…a lot….that smiling helps release endorphins, which help you to relax and feel better.

Most of the time when we are stressed, our mind is so busy thinking about all of our life issues that we forget we need to become more rational with our thoughts and smile, which helps us process our thoughts much clearer and calmer. When you are tense and then you smile…. notice how your body relaxes during that smile. Have you ever smiled and felt tense???? ….doubtful, but I’m impressed if you can (wink). Maybe if you fake smile…but I want you to take a deep breath, close your eyes if you can safely, and think about something positive happening in your life. Can you feel the tenseness in your body relax?

Smiling is a game changer in life. The more we smile, the more we relax. Smiling is seriously a relaxing event. Smiling is contagious and trust me when I say….we need something positive that is contagious. I forget the importance of smiling when I become stressed with work and life. When life hands you challenges….you hand life your smiles and see the difference smiling will make.
