Tonight I met with a few friends after work. I love meeting with friends, we always laugh and talk about life’s adventures. My friends are such an amazing group…. They are my melting pot. Why do I call them my melting pot you may ask……it’s because we are all different with such diverse personalities and different views pertaining to life and what life offers us.
I love it when my friends enlighten me on their thoughts with different topics. I am learning to listen to my friends without judging how they think. Oh trust me…..I use to cringe when I felt a friend thought I had to think the way they did. This thought process was my issue; something I needed to work on. This is where I remind you to think about what you say before you say it when you are not in agreement with what someone thinks.
We learn from what we hear. Sometimes we agree with what we hear and sometimes we don’t. This is when we use our mind openly to venture outside the box and really think about someone else’s opinions. Tonight I had a friend talk to me about a subject I was not interested in discussing, but he made me think and change my thoughts on this particular subject. I so appreciate his thoughts and opinions on the topic we were discussing.
The lesson I learned tonight was…Even though I may not want to discuss certain topics, I need to listen without judgement and learn from what other’s believe. Just because I believe what I want to be true……listening without cutting them off or judging them is admiration and being a sincere genuine friend/individual. I tend to, “shut my hearing off,” when I don’t like what someone is saying. Listening when you don’t think you need to is such a valuable skill to obtain.
We all have an opinion. Listen to one another’s thoughts and learn from each other. You may not always agree, but other’s opinions are just as valuable as yours.
