Squirrel Moments

Have you ever notice that you never really noticed squirrel moments until you got older? Children have squirrel moments all the time. Sadly, these days.. most parents, daycares, schools, and/or family members think of these squirrel moments as the child having ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.) I understand individuals having ADHD, we just didn’t have that diagnosis back when I had a child, not to mention….adults with ADHS back then were just called “very active”

We really don’t need a label for every thing we do, but I love squirrel moments, and pointing them out. So…with this being said…please don’t take offense with this post if you or someone you love has ADHD, which became recognized by the American Psychiatric Association back in the 60’s.

Squirrel moments are funny as an adult because we get so excited when we are telling a story and then another thought comes into our mind and BOOM…..we have to tell that thought before we forget it….What happens next you ask???? We then forget what we were talking about in the beginning with.

As adults we don’t think squirrel moments are funny when it comes to our children. As I grew up I never recall having squirrel moments, but as an adult I see so many children, teenagers, adults, and elders have daily squirrel moments. Does this make us forgetful or have trouble focusing on one thought…heck no….it means our mind is full of thoughts and we love to get them out before we forget them, or before someone else takes over the conversation not allowing us to say what was so exciting on our mind…..because we forgot.

I have so many squirrel moments every day…..Hey, I have a lot to say (as does everyone else in this world.)….Most of the time I believe my thoughts are always worth hearing 😉 . Here is my thought, on squirrel moments. Yes…We have forgotten what we were going to say, yes….it’s ok to have a lot of thoughts going through our mind allowing us to have squirrel moments, and yes….squirrel moments help us exercise our brain by trying to remember what we were talking about. Squirrel moments are just like walking into a room forgetting what your mission was. We then, retrace our path and remember why we can into the room….working the brain.

Lesson: We notice more squirrel moments in our children, parents, other people, and ourselves as we become older. I am hoping that after you read this post you will smile and realize these squirrel moments are just a part of everyday living. Trust me when I say….I was so worried when I started noticing more that I was forgetting what I was about to say. When this happens to me now… I think to myself, “yep Alexis, your brain is still working, and you are still thinking a ton of thoughts.” No matter one’s age….keep active, stay strong, and know that a mind has a ton of thoughts that can happen….ALL….AT….ONE….TIME…… I LOVE MY SQUIRREL MOMENTS NOW.

Trust the Journey and Life Lessons,

Alexis
