Technology

Computers….not my favorite topic this week. I have to admit, I am not great at figuring out computers. I learned to use word, excel, and powerpoint while in college. I have gone through numerous computers, probably because I hit buttons I shouldn’t have. Instead of fixing the computer, I would buy a new one. The computer I rely on daily told me I didn’t have any space left, then pretty much shut down. I looked up on YouTube what this mean and started deleting things. Sadly I deleted all my important things. (insert sad face here).

We rely so much on computer these days. I can’t tell you how many patients rely on a text or an email telling them when their upcoming blaming technology for missing an appointment rather than ourselves …How hard is it to write down an appointment on a calendar? I have even told people to put appointments in their phone to remind them (another technology device.)

I realized tonight that I relied so heavily on my computer to pay my bills, my budget was in my computer, pictures are in my computer, my blog is in the computer, emails with information….Heck, I even received my Master’s on the computer…..I can go on and on about what everyone puts in their computer. People even date on the computer. We stay in touch with friends and family on the computer.

My lesson tonight is… I need to go back to paying bills either in person, or writing checks and taking them to the post office (I’ve had our mail taken from our mailbox before.) Old fashion???? YES…..Peace of mind???? ABSOLUTELY. Don’t get me wrong….I love technology, such as facebook, marco polo, texting, and snapchat because I connect with family and friends more now than I probably would be without these amazing applications.

I’ve just learned not to put my eggs all in one basket, such as my computer. I need to chose my battles and make my life easier, which involves….Not putting everything into a computer/basket.

I am truly blessed to have an understanding son-in-law who helps me, with a smile, everytime I mess up my computer. Computers will be for communication only., I am also thinking about buying a camera so I have pictures that don’t get wiped out by the computer, and I will be using a calendar to remind me of events.

Trust the Journey and Learn the Lessons,

Alexis

  1. Welcome back to the “old way”. Lol I still pay bills by check book..I write notes and dates down, I have a calendar and chalk board in my kitchen for dates…friends/family think I’m old fashion and silly..it’s ok..I honestly do like to write notes down! I have had all my photos blown away before, someone hack into our checking and take money..so for me I track it on paper..I don’t know if it’s the most effective, but I do like taking quiet time and writing out my bills and keeping my budget on a big pad of graphic paper..
I am so Sorry your computer broke….
    always me
