How many of us love to dress up for a Halloween Party, Masquerade Party, or any party where you can dress up and everyone likes you because they have no idea who is under that mask/costume. How many of us do this and have more courage to act like we want to instead of what people expect us to act like?
I just watched an episode of “The Mask Singer” and the person who had to reveal themselves said how good it felt to just be who they are and they sang songs they never thought they could, because they were behind the mask. It’s amazing the courage we obtain within ourselves when others don’ t know who is behind the mask.
I still find myself hinding who I really am in front of some people. I do get a tad upset with myself, but slowly I am becoming stronger and believe in myself while realizing I don’t have to pretend to be someone I am not. We don’t have to be tougher than the next person, smarter than others, prettier, skinnier, or funnier just to fit in.
People need to like us for who we are. If someone doesn’t like us for who we are….ask yourself if you like who you are or who you are trying to be. I say this because sometimes we really don’t like who we’ve become. People really don’t like to be bullies, but they are because they tend to believe no one will like them unless they can scare others…..this feeling gives them a sense of power, not happiness.
Try for a day being who you want to be in front of others you may feel intimidated around. I am learning not to change my true colors in front of others. I have learned that I am well loved for who I am. Being me has made me love life so much more and love others comfortably without being fake. I will always have that mask in the corner of my mind….heck…I still use the mask at times, but as life goes on….the mask is becoming dusty, which is such a glorious sight.
I can dress up in a costume and just be myself. This feeling of not pretending to be someone I’m not when the mask is off, is a powerful feeling.
