WE ALL HAVE A PAST

This is such a fragile topic. How many times have we heard someone say, “They have had it rough, they had a bad childhood, they’ve been through a lot…..,” you get the just of what I am saying. I think I’ve said this a zillion times to people until I stopped because I realized, we all have a past. We have all been through at least one traumatic event in our life. What is important to remember is… Each person’s traumatic event in their life is just that….Traumatic.

One person might say, “My life was much harder than yours.” Trust me when I say, yes…to that person, they believe no one could have or should have gone through what they did. These events are life altering event(s). Some people need to talk to others about them and some people hold these past life altering events deep within their soul. Please know that past traumatic events are the worse to each individual because he/she cannot imagine anyone else going through such an event.

I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have told clients/patients that the past is the past, let it go and move on. Mentally, most individuals cannot unjust the injustice that has happened in their life that either scared them or traumatized them. What we can do is rise above what happened to us and not let it control our life. If we let the past control our every thought or cause us to be debilitated, that past event has total control of us and is winning……yes, the event or person who caused us pain is winning.

I don’t know about you, but it feels pretty darn great to be a winner. You will never forget your past bad events unless you have mentally blocked them out, which I for one knows this happens, but you can rise above and win. You can win this past battle. You can change your attitude and show the past who is boss. You are the boss of your attitude, reaction to the past, present, and future happenings.

We all have a past. The best thing I can say about past events is to try and focus more on the positive past life events. I told a friend today that most people focus on the negative because it’s easier and many of us with a past that is unpleasant find that talking negative is natural. You can change this thought process with time…lots of time. One day, with much practice, you will talk about your positive life moments with pride and then…you are winning.

Trust the Journey,

Alexis
